To you Rinaldo, both are correct…
in the first one you want to say that you had this car since 2004 but you do not have it any more, but in the second you still have the car.

Hello rinaldo38!

The correct sentence is I have had this car since 2004. Because you got the car in 2004 and  you still have it at the time you are speaking. To talk about an event that started in the past and happens up to the present time you have to use the present perfect tense which, by the way, is very difficult for some people to understand. Believe me, the first sentence is the correct one! ;)
