You can use “blend in” to describe a situation in which a person wants to be the same as the other people around him/her. Basically, someone who is trying to “blend in” is trying not to stand out. S/he is trying to be the same as everyone else. Most often, the people who want to blend in are either famous, and don’t want to be recognized, or they are traveling, and they want to seem the same as the people in the place they’re visiting. In addition, one might want to “blend in” when s/he enters a new social situation, such as a school or sports team. In order to “blend in” in one of these situations, a person would act very normal and ordinary, so as not to attract attention.
