Do you ever wonder what it’s like under the ocean? There would be water above, underneath, and all around you, fish swimming by, and maybe you’d even see a shark!

In fact, you can have a deep sea adventure in a submarine. It’s a vessel that’s made to go underwater, so you can check out what’s really in the ocean. And you won’t get wet! Although hanging out in a small space might make some people feel pretty claustrophobic, they can see out through the portholes and the periscope.

Mason wants to take Amanda to see a submarine, but she isn’t interested. Find out why in this English lesson.

Mason:  Have you ever seen that submarine that’s just hanging out by the science museum?

Amanda:  It actually gives me the chills just to think about.

Mason:  Seriously? I think it’s so cool. I mean, we figured out how to do that… make boats that go underwater.

Amanda:  Well I think you forget that I have a phobia of two things: one, water, and two, closed spaces.

Mason:  Oh, a little claustrophobic?

Amanda:  A little bit. You’re underwater. You can’t really breathe if one of the windows busts open. You’re in this vessel. It’s not really comfortable or luxurious at all.

Mason:  Well, if you’re feeling a little claustrophobic you can always see out of the submarine if you look through one of the portholes or maybe use the periscope.

Amanda:  What is a periscope?

Mason:  Periscopes are cool! Come on, you know the big goggles thing that extends up above the water? Seagulls like to perch on them and stuff.

Amanda:  So, is it like a telescope but it is vertical?

Mason:  Yes. Well, listen. How about we go check out the one at the science museum? It doesn’t even go underwater. And we’ll just see how it goes. Right? Maybe you can ease into it.

Amanda:  I actually can’t think of a worse idea for a date.

Mason asks Amanda if she has seen the submarine near the science museum. She hasn’t seen it, and she isn’t interested. Amanda reminds Mason that she is scared of two things: water and closed spaces. For her, getting into a vessel that goes underwater seems like a bad idea.

Mason is not claustrophobic, so he doesn’t really understand Amanda. He tells her that she can look out through the portholes or the periscope. And if they visit the submarine at the museum, they won’t even go underwater. Mason thinks it’s a way for Amanda to ease into underwater adventure, but she disagrees.

Would you like to ride in a submarine? Are you claustrophobic?

You can’t find a comfy couch inside a submarine.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to tell a lot about submarines since they’re meant to be for military necessities. But the main stuff is that it’s completely NOT LUXURY to stay inside because of the lack of the space and a load of different other inconveniecnces!! Not to say, underwater world is mostly quite poor except for several few places in the world like Red or Andaman Sea.

Sorry for party pooping))

Ive never seen a submarine, let alone ridden in one. There’s not any military port near where I live, so maybe I wont be able to see a submarine…

But Im not claustrophobic and I ‘d like to ride in one if possible especially yellow one.

And I’d sing like this,” We all live in a Yellow Submarine!”

Hi,

I went to a museum and there was a submarine there.  It was a cool experience to be inside, learning how it works, where the crew had to develop activities such as sleep, have meals, control the submarine.

I’m not claustrophobic, so I enjoyed it a lot and took lots of photos :D

Have a nice day

I was actually watching a documentary about an American nuclear submarine the other day on YouTube.  They said that modern submarines supply oxygen by breaking seawater into oxygen and hydrogen electronically. The particular submarine the documentary was showing had two oxygen converters installed in it and the clew named one of them Paris Hilton and the other with her twin sister’s name (I forgot the name). The sub had a workout gym and I thought that was cool. But I am sure it doesn’t have pool tables :)

As for me, I can try to give submarines a chance. Personally, I’m not a professional in this sphere, actually I have only general knowledges about underwater world. On the other hand, it would be a great opportunity for me. I would like to be inside a submarine and to feel a water around me. Frankly, I have never thought about claustrophobia, so I believe that it will be comfortably for me.

Well!! Actually i really keen on taking one navigation as an interesting adventure beneath an enormous blue ocean by riding a reliable and safe submarine. In my view point it’s similar to SKYDIVING. Generally, it would be very spellbound to me to watch a beautiful scenery treasures and enjoy of looking at a big crowd of wonderful spices of marines, sharks, whales and etc. Indeed seeking wild life mysteries is one of my favorite habits. Likewise I’m a big fan of wild life specially amphibians and reptiles. On the other hand, I know that it’s very HARD TO COME BY to me but in my opinion i’ll take it someday maybe when i need to WIND DOWN for a while at the specific beach with high facilities.
