Old civilizations used the movements of stars and planets to predict changes. Astrology was part of everyday life! Farmers watched the sky and the moon to know when to plant seeds. People liked to play tarot cards as an icebreaker. In modern times, people think astrology is a gimmick, but others have a more positive outlook. For some people, astrology helps them to understand people and communicate better. Knowing your sign can help you be a better leader at work and even a better friend!
Gary and Andy are talking about astrology. Find out what they think in today’s English lesson!

Andy_H: Hey Gary, what’s your sign?
Gary: I’m going to say, I don’t know?
Andy_H: Well, what I am referring to is, of course, astrology.
Gary: Ah, oh, I think I’m Sagittarius.
Andy_H: Oh yeah, I definitely would say that you’re Sagittarius. You know, I myself am a Gemini. And let me tell you, I just had my tarot read this week, and I’m a fan of astrology.
Gary: How did it go?
Andy_H: Well, I had a pretty good reading. See, the thing about astrology is: Sometimes, you’ll think that maybe it’s predicting your future. But most of the time, it’s, if anything else, just giving you a better outlook on life and also, maybe, having you meditate on things that you need to improve in your life.
Gary: That’s really interesting. For me, and I mean no offense, it feels like a gimmick.
Andy_H: No!
Gary: Yeah. It feels like a way to kind of start a conversation with someone, an icebreaker of sorts, to talk about your connection with other people or how you relate to one another.
Andy_H: Gary, I hear you. But there is a certain jumping off that you have to do in order to feel the connection and totality that really is horoscopes. You have to be willing to take the dive, as it were. It’s not all hocus pocus, but I understand your concern.
