The US doesn’t make a lot of things anymore. The country is reliant on other countries to make their clothes, cars, computers, and many other high-demand products. So, what does the US still make? Well, many things. But what is it famous for? Media. Entertainment. Movies. For decades, people have moved to the US from all around the world to become filmmakers, producers, or actors.
But the entertainment industry has changed. In the past, we went to movie rental stores like Blockbusters or movie theaters. Now, we watch movies whenever we want on the internet. Companies like Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix provide movies and television shows online. But many people feel overwhelmed and frustrated by online movie streaming. Most of these websites don’t have the classic content most US citizens know and love.
Both Gary and Andy are angry at Netflix, a movie streaming website, for different reasons. Listen to their conversation to see why.

Gary: I’m going to go ahead and load up Netflix here…
Andy_H: Oh, gosh, here we go! Netflix, again! Netflix! Hey, do you want to watch some Netflix?
Gary: So, you know. Here’s the crazy thing. I’m actually really frustrated with Netflix.
Andy_H: Oh, really?
Gary: I feel overwhelmed by the access to media because there is so much Netflix provides, so much really great content, because of their investment in their own productions. And so, they’re not reliant on any ad revenue. It’s just all of their own content. It’s great, I love it!
Andy_H: But at the same time, it feels like they’re shoving their content down my throat. While I’m not allowed to have as much you know… “market say” I guess, if you want to put it kindly, that I do with TV or… even with things like Blockbuster! I mean, for the amount of good movies they have on Netflix, there is so much bad content!
Gary wants to watch movies on Netflix. Andy is tired of Netflix, and Gary is too. Although Gary loves the new movies that Netflix makes, he also misses their old, classic content. Andy misses it, too, especially the Shakespeare productions.
Gary appreciates that Netflix provides a huge variety but also feels overwhelmed with so many options. Gary likes that they don’t have many commercials in order to make money. Andy disagrees and thinks Netflix should think of their audience more, even if they play commercials. He says that there are just as many bad movies and good movies on Netflix.
