Have you ever seen a total solar eclipse? They are one of the most beautiful things you can see on Earth. When the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, the moon blocks the sun. This causes the sky to go as dark as night. The eclipse lasts for only a couple of minutes. You can observe a total solar eclipse somewhere on Earth every 18 months.
Some people travel all over the world, trying to view as many eclipses as possible. These people are called eclipse chasers. Some people in the United States will get to see a total solar eclipse this August. It is a once in a lifetime experience for many people. They are buying gear and making a hotel or campsite reservation so they are ready for this magical event.
The solar eclipse in August is going to be wonderful! Listen as Jordin and Romeo make plans to go see the eclipse.

Romeo: August 21, 2017.
Jordin: Are we going?
Romeo: We are going!
Jordin: Aaaah!
Romeo: We are going!
Jordin: That’s going to be so awesome!
Romeo: Yes! It’s a once in a lifetime experience. And I just booked the reservation. And we’re going to see the solar eclipse! And it’s going to be awesome!
Jordin: Yay! We should get some of those cool glasses so you can watch the thing for real.
Romeo: Oh, yeah! Oh, yes! For sure. We have to have all the right gear. You can’t, like, observe a solar eclipse and go unprepared.
Jordin: What other gear do we need, honey?
Romeo: Um, well, we could always bring some popcorn. And…
Jordin: Definitely…
Romeo: Yes, For sure.
Jordin: Popcorn to eat while we watch. It’ll be so romantic!
Romeo: And…yes it will! I also bought you some hiking boots because I know you’ve been needing some. And we can use those…
Jordin: Are we going hiking?
Romeo: Yeah, we’re going to go on a hike. So we can get a very good view.
Jordin: Ok! Will you carry me if it’s too hard?
Romeo: You know I’ll carry you.
Jordin: Oh, thanks, boo!
Romeo: I’ll carry you around the world.
