Miguel:  So Anna are you going to go see that Eminem movie, 8 Mile?

Anna:   Not a chance!

Miguel:  What do you mean? I saw it, it’s good.

Anna:  I don’t know. There’s just certain actors out there and actresses that are so… bad. It doesn’t matter, I can’t see the movie.

Miguel:  So are you putting Eminem in that category?

Anna:  I’m putting Eminem in that category.

Miguel:  But you don’t know him. He, he… this is his first movie. You don’t know if he’s a bad actor or not.

Anna:  He’s bad as a person, and if he’s bad as a person he’s bad as an actor. I cannot, I cannot support that.

Miguel:   Well, I’m telling you I saw the movie, you know. I know there’s a lot of controversy about Eminem but, he, he was actually… did a pretty good job, and regardless of uh, you know, what the movie… what his music is like, the movie, the movie has some you know, the movie does have some redeeming qualities, like it tells a good like moral story I think.

Anna:  Does good win over evil, or can you tell me that?

Miguel:  Yeah! good definitely wins over evil and like, you know, the triumph of the human spirit is like the main theme.

Anna:  Maybe I’ll rent it.

Discussion

As you can see from the discussion Miguel really enjoyed not only the actor, but his performance in the movie as well. Miguel clearly is trying to convince me to see the movie. I still have my doubts.
I think if a celebrity gets controversial press I feel less likely to want to support him. People in the public eye should behave well because they are role models for others. Miguel disagrees with my opinion of Eminem and thinks I should see the movie regardless of what I think about him. I’m still not sure what to do.
See you at the movies,
Anna
