Facebook generation form flimsy friendships and are bored by reality

1 The popularity of Facebook and other social networking websites could be creating a generation of children who find it difficult to form lasting friendships and find real life boring, doctors have warned.

2 The fast pace of the online world leave youngsters feeling out of touch and unstimulated by reality. They may place less value on their lives - raising their risk of suicide, psychiatrist Himanshu Tyagi said.

3 The annual conference of the Royal College of Psychiatrists heard those born after 1990 have grown up in a world dominated by online social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. People used to the quick pace of on-line social networking may soon find the real world boring and unstimulating, potentially leading to more extreme behaviour to get that sense.

英國皇家精神醫學院在年會上指出，1990年以後出生的人是在一個由社交網站如Facebook和MySpace主宰的世界。「習慣快節奏的網路社交圈的人們，可能很快就會發現現實世界很無趣、不刺激，這可能導致他們從事更多極端行為來滿足刺激感。」

4 ’It may be possible that young people who have no experience of a world without online societies put less value on their real world identities and can therefore be at risk in their real lives, perhaps more vulnerable to impulsive behaviour or even suicide.
